Tennessee Confirms Second Measles Case

Tennessee health officials have now confirmed two measles cases in Middle Tennessee, both linked to exposure outside the state.

Officials released a list of public locations across Nashville and Murfreesboro where infected individuals were present during the infectious period, including Swett’s Restaurant, a Publix, and Dino’s Bar and Grill over the Fourth of July weekend.

Both individuals are recovering at home. Only one is known to have been vaccinated; the other’s status is unknown.

Anyone who visited the listed locations during the specified times is urged to monitor for symptoms and contact a healthcare provider. Health officials say measles symptoms can appear up to 21 days after exposure and include rash, fever, cough, and red eyes.

Flash Flooding Devastates Del Rio Community

Flash flooding struck the Del Rio community in Cocke County Saturday morning, dropping an estimated 6 inches of rain and destroying roads, and prompting five swift water rescues.

The county’s emergency management director said the damage was worse than Hurricane Helene for some residents, though he hadn’t anticipated an event of that magnitude.

State Route 107, Heartland Ridge Road, and Fugate Road sustained significant damage or became impassable. Del Pizza Rio, one of two beloved local restaurants hit hard, lost running water after a water line broke on its property.

No deaths or injuries were reported; however, the threat isn’t over. A Flood Watch remains in effect through today as a nearly stalled weather system continues to push heavy rain across East Tennessee, with some stronger storms capable of producing wind gusts up to 50 mph.

Gaylord Opryland Hits Expansion Milestone

Nashville’s Gaylord Opryland Resort celebrated the “topping off” of its $131 million expansion last week, marking the completion of the vertical build as construction shifts to interior work.

More than 100,000 square feet of new meeting and event space is expected to open by spring 2027. Ryman Hospitality Properties executive chairman Colin Reed said the resort already generated more than $70 million in tax revenue for Nashville and the state last year, money that flows to schools, public safety, and other city services.

“We have a product here that nobody else on the planet has,” Reed said. The expansion is designed to help Nashville compete for larger conventions and corporate events.

Reed expects tax revenue to grow as more visitors arrive, reinforcing the city’s position as one of the top tourism and meeting destinations in the country.
