Article Icon 1Tennessee Voters Head to the Polls

Tennesseans are casting ballots today in the state and federal general election, and polling places and hours, which vary by county, are listed on the state’s GoVoteTN site.

At the top of the ballot is an open race for governor between Republican Marsha Blackburn, Democrat Jerri Green, and independents David Hatley and Lauren Pinkston, plus a U.S. Senate seat and all nine U.S. House seats under a new congressional map.

Voters will also decide state legislative races, and three proposed constitutional amendments on bail, a state property tax ban, and crime victims’ rights.

More than 1.28 million Tennesseans voted early, about 45% more than in 2022. Questions can go to the state’s Election Day hotline at 1-877-850-4959.

Article Icon 1Mayor Orders Study of Nashville General

Mayor Freddie O’Connell formed a vision committee to study Nashville General Hospital’s future, including whether the city’s public hospital should stay at its current site or move.

The committee will also examine the hospital’s teaching partnership with Meharry Medical College and how to keep public costs manageable, and O’Connell said he has no predetermined outcome.

Nashville General has operated on Meharry’s campus since 1998 and provides about $60 million in uncompensated care each year, the mayor said.

The move follows a turbulent stretch for the hospital, including its CEO’s 2025 resignation after an audit raised concerns about spending.

Article Icon 1Heavy Rain Threatens Wednesday Commute

A strong cold front will bring heavy rain to Middle Tennessee Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, prompting a First Alert Weather Day.

Forecasters expect 1 to 2 inches of rain, with poor visibility and hydroplaning making Wednesday’s morning commute hazardous.

Rain chances in Memphis are about 85% on Election Day itself, while Nashville and East Tennessee should stay mostly dry until the front arrives.

Cooler air settles in behind it, with highs falling into the upper 50s and low 60s across much of the state by the weekend.
