Article Icon 1Manhunt for Escaped Killer in Lake County

A multi-agency manhunt is underway for Jacob Morley, a 28-year-old convicted murderer who escaped from the Northwest Correctional Complex in Lake County early Monday.

Morley is serving a life sentence for killing his friend Cody Birchfield in 2022, and details on how he got out of the prison weren’t immediately released.

He’s 5-foot-11, and authorities are urging anyone who spots him or has information about where he might be to call 911 right away.

The state-run prison sits in Tiptonville, near Reelfoot Lake in Tennessee’s far northwest corner. The escape caps a rough month for the state’s prisons after Christa Pike’s failed execution and a deadly assault in Clifton.

Article Icon 1Anthropic Sued over Elvis Lyrics

Anthropic, the San Francisco AI company behind the Claude chatbot, has been sued over allegations that it infringed copyrights tied to lyrics from 274 Elvis Presley songs.

Details on who filed the suit, which court it was filed in, and how much money it seeks weren’t immediately available.

It adds to a growing list of music copyright cases against the company, including one that Universal Music and other publishers first filed in Nashville federal court in 2023 over lyrics from about 500 songs.

Anthropic has disputed earlier claims, with a spokesperson calling one recent suit a case of “recycling allegations from cases already before the courts.”

Article Icon 1List: Fall Color Arrives at TN Parks

Fall color is arriving at Tennessee’s parks, and Great Smoky Mountains National Park is showing off its roughly 100 native tree species as the leaves turn.

Reelfoot Lake State Park offers fall bird migrations, while Edgar Evins State Park near Smithville, Natchez Trace State Park, which spans three counties, and Cummins Falls State Park near Cookeville offer autumn hikes and scenic trails.

Warm weather pushed back peak color in East Tennessee this year, which could stretch the leaf-peeping season and give tourism businesses a boost.

Higher elevations in the Smokies usually change first, with color working its way down the mountains into early November.
