UT Chancellor Leads SEC Push Against LSU

Southeastern Conference leaders will meet today to consider terminating Louisiana State University’s membership, an extraordinary step in an escalating fight over the school’s push to roster former professional players.

University of Tennessee Chancellor Donde Plowman chairs the conference committee that met last week, without LSU, and reached a consensus that the Tigers’ continued membership may clash with SEC principles.

According to an amended federal lawsuit, expelling LSU would require a two-thirds vote, though ESPN reports the conference isn’t actually expected to do so.

Instead, the filing appears aimed at affirming the SEC’s authority to govern itself and enforce its rules, as the legal battle with LSU and Louisiana officials plays out in court.

Vanderbilt Joins Federal Training Push

Vanderbilt University is one of eight schools helping launch the Trump administration’s new Foundry School, a program to train workers and leaders for advanced manufacturing.

Vanderbilt will host one of seven regional sessions beginning this month, covering factory design, supply chains, assembly-line engineering, plant economics, and workforce development.

The State Department says U.S. manufacturers could need an estimated 3.8 million skilled workers by 2033 in fields like semiconductors, defense, and energy.

Stanford developed the core curriculum and will host a 10-session advanced course starting in January. Other partner schools include Georgia Tech, Ohio State, Penn State, Arizona State, Kansas, and Washington University in St. Louis.

11 TN Sites Weighed for Historic Register

Tennessee’s State Review Board will meet next week to consider 11 statewide properties for the National Register of Historic Places.

The nominations span the state and include numerous courthouses, as well as the Coca-Cola Bottling Plant in Davidson County and the Holland Higgins Homestead in Unicoi County.

The 12-member board, made up of historians, architects, and archaeologists, will judge each site’s historic significance at its Sept. 18 public meeting in Nashville.

Nominations that meet the criteria advance to the U.S. Department of the Interior for final federal approval.
