Article Icon 1Floods and Quake Rattle Tennessee

Tennessee faced a one-two punch overnight into early Monday as heavy rains caused flash flooding in Sumner County, leading to water rescues and road closures, after a 2.1-magnitude earthquake struck near Hopewell on Sunday.

Emergency crews responded to stranded vehicles along Bowling Branch Road, with debris still littering reopened roads Monday morning.

Though minor and causing no damage, the quake is part of ongoing seismic activity in the East Tennessee Seismic Zone, which averages hundreds of small tremors annually.

Residents are advised to remain cautious amid cleanup efforts and potential aftershocks.
