Gov. Bill Lee announced $5 million in state grants for food banks across Tennessee on Tuesday, aiming to ease the strain during the ongoing federal government shutdown.

The money will be distributed based on the number of SNAP recipients in each region, with rapid response efforts led by the state’s Faith-Based & Community Initiative.

The move follows the launch of FeedTN.org, a new state-backed site connecting residents with food aid and volunteer opportunities.

More than 120,000 families in Middle Tennessee rely on SNAP to keep food on the table.

Middle Tennessee is getting a taste of sunshine and warmer temps this week, with highs climbing into the 70s by Wednesday and Thursday.

The first hard freeze of the season is anticipated on Monday; however, as arctic air pushes into the region, widespread frost is likely.

Highs will remain in the 40s and 50s before warming up again later in the week.

Weather experts are encouraging Tennesseans to prep now for a cold snap that could nip plants and challenge morning commutes.
