With a week left before Tennessee’s Dec. 2 special election for its 7th Congressional District, super PACs have dropped over $7 million—signaling a tight race.

Republican Matt Van Epps is slightly favored in the GOP-leaning district, but Democrat Aftyn Behn is seeing a late boost over the government shutdown and SNAP cuts.

Outside groups have spent big: $2.3 million from GOP-aligned PACs and $1.8 million from Democrats, most of it on attack ads.

The seat was vacated by Rep. Mark Green and includes parts of Nashville, Clarksville, and rural Middle Tennessee.

Tennessee officials say today will be the busiest travel day of the year, with major backups expected around Nashville ahead of Thanksgiving.

Trouble spots include interchanges on I-24 and I-40, especially near the airport and downtown.

The University of Tennessee announced that Smokey XI, the school’s bluetick coonhound mascot, is retiring after struggling to adapt to the demands of public appearances.

Despite years of training, handlers said his reserved temperament made gameday duties too stressful.

He’ll now enjoy retirement with his family, including former mascot Smokey X.

The search for Smokey XII is underway for the 2026 season, in partnership with the longtime caretakers, the Hudson family.
