Article Icon 1Lee Issues First-Ever Veto Over Parole Bill

Gov. Bill Lee issued the first veto of his administration on Monday, blocking a GOP-backed bill to expand the state parole board’s authority.

Lee argued that the measure would reverse progress made under the 2021 Reentry Success Act, which helped lower Tennessee’s recidivism rate to a record low.

The vetoed bill, which passed largely along party lines, sought to let the board deny parole for a broader set of crimes, including fentanyl-related deaths and carjackings.

Backers plan to push for a veto override in 2026, but Lee says the current safeguards are working and that broader discretion risks undermining public safety reforms.

Article Icon 1Scorching Summer Predicted for Middle TN

Middle Tennessee is staring down another blistering summer in 2025, with the Old Farmer’s Almanac forecasting hot, dry conditions across the South.

The National Weather Service agrees, giving Nashville a 33–50% chance of above-normal temperatures from June through August.

While June may start mild, July and August are expected to bring the real heat, much like 2024, which ranked as Nashville’s hottest year and included one of the driest Augusts on record.

The region’s average temperature usually hovers around 79°F, but this year, expect more 90-degree-plus days.
