Races Form for Tennessee House Seats

State Rep. Jody Barrett, a Dickson Republican, has entered the race for Tennessee’s 7th Congressional District, hoping to replace U.S. Rep. Mark Green, who will officially resign July 20 for a private-sector job.

Barrett, known for touting a “perfect conservative voting record,” vowed to bring “Tennessee toughness” to Washington and align with President Trump.

He joins several Republicans already in the race, alongside Democratic State Rep. Bo Mitchell of Nashville.

The 6th Congressional District will also need a new representative later this year, with current U.S. Rep. John Rose making a bid for governor in 2026.

Rare Tennessee Fish Near Extinction

The Barrens darter, a tiny fish found only in a handful of Middle Tennessee streams, is teetering on the edge of extinction.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has proposed adding it to the endangered species list, blaming pollution, sediment runoff, and altered stream flows.

This colorful species depends on clean, rocky waters to survive, and scientists warn its loss signals broader trouble for Tennessee’s waterways.

Public comments on the proposal are open through Sept. 2.

Netflix Show Stars Knoxville Comedian

Knoxville comedian Leanne Morgan is starring in a new Netflix series set to premiere July 31.

The show, simply titled Leanne, follows a woman rebuilding her life after her husband leaves her following 33 years of marriage.
