D.A. Arrested for Gun Offense

The district attorney for Van Buren and Warren counties in Middle Tennessee has been indicted, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) announced Monday.

A DeKalb County grand jury indicted 31st Judicial District Attorney General Christopher Robert Stanford on one count of reckless endangerment, which is classified as a felony, according to the TBI.

The charge stems from an incident where Stanford allegedly fired a gun “several times” while pursuing a wanted fugitive on Bell Street in Smithville. The gunfire struck a home occupied by a woman and her three children.

Stanford surrendered to authorities and was booked into the DeKalb County Jail Monday. He was released after posting a $10,000 bond.

Bill Would Send Migrants to Sanctuary Cities

A Tennessee state lawmaker has introduced a bill that would require law enforcement to send undocumented migrants accused of minor crimes to sanctuary cities within the U.S. instead of deporting them to their home countries.

Republican State Rep. Todd Warner filed the proposal ahead of the upcoming legislative session.

Warner explained that transporting migrants to sanctuary cities could be more cost-effective for the state compared to deporting them, even though the federal government typically covers deportation expenses.

Law Enforcement Shines Lights for Hospital

The annual Shine Our Lights event took place Monday in Knoxville, with numerous law enforcement agencies gathering outside the East Tennessee Children’s Hospital to shine red and blue lights for the young patients to enjoy.

The University of Tennessee Police Department shared photos of the event on Facebook, expressing its gratitude for the opportunity to participate.

The department also praised the children for their courage and the hope they inspire.
