Article Icon 1$38M Approved for TN Farm Recovery

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has awarded $38.1 million to help East Tennessee farmers recover from damage caused by Hurricane Helene in 2024.

The funds, distributed through the Tennessee Department of Agriculture, will cover infrastructure, timber, and future economic losses not covered by other federal aid or insurance.

Farmers in eight counties—including Cocke, Greene, and Washington—can apply for up to 90% of verified losses.

The funding comes from the American Relief Act’s $30 billion disaster assistance program. More information will be available here.

Article Icon 1Semi Carrying Horses Overturns on I-65

A semi-truck hauling 17 horses overturned Sunday afternoon on I-65 South near Goodlettsville, closing the southbound lanes for several hours.

The crash happened around 1:30 p.m. at mile marker 99 in Sumner County, backing up traffic for miles.

All horses survived, though some were injured and treated on-site by a veterinarian.

The driver sustained only minor injuries and did not require hospitalization.

While Titans star Jeffery Simmons was scoring a touchdown in San Francisco on Sunday, at least six suspects broke into his Nashville home, according to police.

The burglars shattered a window to gain entry and stole multiple items while the house was empty.

Simmons shared surveillance footage on social media, expressing concern for what could’ve happened if the family had been home. 

Metro Police and team security are investigating, amid rising reports of athlete-targeted burglaries nationwide.
