Google Picks Tennessee for Nuclear Plant

Google has announced plans to build a small modular nuclear reactor in Oak Ridge by 2030 to power its Southeast data centers.

The project marks the first U.S. utility deal for next-generation nuclear technology and could be scaled for future reactors.

The 500-megawatt plant is part of Google’s broader push to meet soaring AI energy demands with carbon-free power.

Nashville High School Faces Dress-Code Backlash

Martin Luther King Jr. Magnet High School in Nashville is facing backlash after rolling out a stricter dress code just days before the start of the school year.

The new rules are more restrictive than in years past, with rules requiring students to cover their chest, shoulders, back, and midriff at all times, and banning shorts and skirts shorter than mid-thigh. The new rules also require that leggings or yoga pants be paired with clothing that hits mid-thigh.

Some parents said the new dress code was too strict and worried that it unfairly targeted female students.

“I know the language itself technically is not gender-specific, but specifically calling out leggings and yoga pants seemed kind of skewed toward female students,” said MLK parent Heather Corum Powell.

Sewanee Named Top Arts Town in 2025

Sewanee, home to the University of the South, was named America’s Best Small Arts & Culture Town by Travel + Leisure for 2025.

Nestled on the Cumberland Plateau, the town boasts the Sewanee Writers’ Conference and Sewanee Summer Music Festival, both drawing national talent.
