Nashville International Airport has dropped diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) hiring targets in response to President Trump’s January order ending federal DEI initiatives.

The airport’s diversity office was restructured into a race and gender-neutral small business program, which officials say is required to keep an estimated $29 million in federal funding.

Existing contracts with minority businesses will remain in place under the policy change.

A 78-year-old Sevierville man shot and killed a yearling black bear Sunday after waking up from a nap around 1:30 p.m. to noises in his kitchen, according to the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency.

The bear had broken through a screen door and refused to leave the property, despite recently raiding an outbuilding.

TWRA said no violations occurred, noting the area’s ongoing unsecured trash problem has drawn bears into homes and vehicles.

Officials said such break-ins are rare but often follow repeated access to human food.
