Question: Which U.S. president is buried on the grounds of the Tennessee State Capitol?
Answer: James K. Polk, former governor of Tennessee, served as POTUS from 1845 to 1849. After he left office, he went on a goodwill tour of the southern states, where he reportedly contracted cholera while in New Orleans. He died in his Nashville home on June 15, 1849, 103 days after leaving office. His wife, Sarah Childress Polk, was buried near her late husband when she died in 1891.
