Article Icon 1Man Arrested Over Charlie Kirk-Related Meme

A former Lexington police officer was arrested Monday after posting a meme that officials say sparked panic over a possible school threat.

Larry Bushart Jr., 61, shared the meme in a Perry County Facebook group during discussions of a vigil for conservative Christian activist Charlie Kirk.

Some interpreted the post as a threat toward Perry County High School, which shares a name with the Iowa school hit by a 2024 mass shooting.

Bushart faces charges of making threats of mass violence, with his case among the first tied to social media fallout after Kirk’s Sept. 10 assassination.

Tech giant Oracle, now headquartered in Nashville, will take the lead in overseeing TikTok’s algorithm and U.S. data security under a deal shaped by the Trump administration.

The arrangement would license TikTok’s recommendation algorithm to a new U.S.-based venture with Oracle overseeing the review and security of American user data.

Investment firm Silver Lake Partners and billionaires Rupert Murdoch and Michael Dell are also involved in the oversight group.

The deal still requires approval from Chinese regulators before moving forward.

Article Icon 1Clinton 12 Pioneer Bobby Cain Dies

Bobby Cain, the first black student to graduate from an integrated public high school in Tennessee, died Monday in Nashville at age 85.

As a senior in 1956, Cain was one of the Clinton 12 who integrated Clinton High School under a federal court order, facing hostility from classmates, protests by segregationists, and a post-graduation beating.

Reluctant to leave his black high school, he would later become a symbol of early desegregation in the South. He went on to attend Tennessee State University and worked for the state Department of Human Services.

Cain is survived by a daughter and grandson.
