Article Icon 1Morristown Complies With AG Warning

Morristown city leaders have revised rules for public event spaces after Tennessee’s attorney general warned the city may be violating the state human rights law.

The city had previously barred political and religious activities at the downtown green and farmer’s market, but that policy was scrapped following the AG’s letter.

The issue surfaced after a request to hold a prayer vigil for political figure Charlie Kirk was denied in September.

Officials said the permit was rejected due to scheduling, not content, but the rules have now been adjusted to avoid further legal concerns.

Article Icon 1Riley Gaines Appointed to Library Board

Riley Gaines, a conservative activist and former NCAA swimmer, has been appointed to the Sumner County Library Board in a 16-6 vote by county commissioners.

The appointment follows months of tension over efforts to remove transgender-themed books from children’s sections, a policy repeatedly championed—but not passed—by outgoing board chair Joanna Daniels.

Gaines replaces Daniels and is expected to advocate for similar rules.

The new board, now with a conservative majority, meets next on November 12.

Article Icon 1Tennessee Winter Likely Warmer, Wetter

NOAA’s 2025 winter outlook predicts a warmer-than-usual season for much of Tennessee, especially in the East and parts of Middle Tennessee, with a 33–40% chance of above-normal temperatures.

West Tennessee is also expected to see above-average precipitation.

AccuWeather adds that while major storms may bookend the season, southern areas—including Tennessee—will likely see fewer and weaker cold snaps.

Thanksgiving is shaping up to be sunny and mild, setting the tone for a tamer start to winter.
