Article Icon 1Plane Crashes on Chattanooga Roadway

A plane crashed on Shallowford Road Tuesday evening, narrowly missing nearby traffic. The two passengers aboard the single-engine aircraft sustained only minor injuries.

The Chattanooga Fire Department stated that the individuals are “very lucky to be alive.”

The engine reportedly failed, causing the plane to crash about half a mile from the Chattanooga Airport runway. A small fuel leak was also contained, as seen in a video of the damages.

As a result, Shallowford Road was closed overnight. The FAA is investigating the accident.

Article Icon 1Cocke County Woes Continue From  Helene

Nearly two months after Hurricane Helene, cleanup efforts in Cocke County continue despite growing financial concerns.

“We’re looking at around $150 million in damages,” said Cocke County Mayor Rob Mathis. “That figure only covers public infrastructure and doesn’t account for private housing losses.”

This $150 million estimate also excludes lost revenue. Rafting, one of the county’s key tourism attractions, has been significantly impacted, while many still await debris removal.

Mathis warned that the loss of tourism revenue will be felt in the months ahead.
