Article Icon 1Charlie Kirk Act Clears Senate

Tennessee senators have passed free speech legislation known as the Charlie Kirk Act, sending the bill to the State House for review.

The proposal would require public colleges and universities to adopt stronger free speech protections modeled after the University of Chicago’s policy and inspired by Charlie Kirk’s legacy.

The measure bars schools from restricting guest speakers, punishing protected faculty speech, or discriminating based on religious or political views.

The bill is set for discussion in the Tennessee House tomorrow, where its future will be decided.

Article Icon 1Dry March Nears Record Low Rainfall

Middle Tennessee is wrapping up one of its driest Marches on record, with Nashville recording just 1.50 inches of rain, about 2.5 inches below normal levels.

The dry stretch has kept much of the region in moderate drought or abnormally dry conditions, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor, which considers soil moisture, streamflow, and real-world impacts.

Forecasters say the pattern will shift in early April, bringing a return of showers and possible storms starting midweek.

The system could extend into Easter weekend, offering some relief but likely not enough to keep March out of the record books.

Rose Joseph, a 17-year-old Knoxville student, has earned the Congressional Award Gold Medal, one of the nation’s highest honors for youth, making her one of four recipients in Tennessee.

Joseph logged more than 500 hours each in community service and personal development over two years, volunteering with medical clinics and assisting patient care efforts.

She also launched a project called Serve 865 to connect younger students with volunteer opportunities after facing age barriers herself.

Rose will travel to Washington, D.C., in June to receive the award. Read more about the award here.
