Article Icon 1Putnam Co. Joins ICE Task Force Amid Rifle Case

Putnam County has become Tennessee’s first county to form an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) task force under a revived federal program allowing local deputies to enforce immigration laws.

The move follows a shooting incident in which Felipe Ruyz Pacheco, an illegal immigrant, allegedly fired an AR-style rifle into a vacant home. He was later arrested with matching shell casings in his car.

The task force model, once ended over profiling concerns, has returned under President Trump to help localize ICE enforcement and cooperation with federal authorities.

A Vanderbilt study has found that Gen X-ers and older Millennials are 3 to 4 times more likely to be diagnosed with appendix cancer than those born in the 1940s.

Though rare, as only about 3,000 cases occur annually, researchers say the increase mirrors trends in early-onset colorectal cancer.

Dr. Andreana Holowatyj, lead author and oncology professor, is now exploring possible links to environmental factors like microplastics and antibiotic use.

Experts urge anyone with persistent abdominal pain, back pain, or bloating to consult a doctor. Find the full study here.
