14 Complaints Filed against Tennessee DCS

A Tennessee state representative has filed 14 federal civil rights complaints against the Department of Children’s Services, accusing the agency of disability discrimination, falsified case records, and covering up sexual assaults across more than ten counties.

Rep. Aftyn Behn, who last year ran in a nationally watched congressional race in Tennessee’s 7th District, is calling for a federal investigation and an immediate hold on active termination of parental rights.

She’s also demanding a corrective action plan with ongoing federal monitoring and anti-retaliation protections for families who reported misconduct, some of whom she says faced fabricated abuse allegations in response.

The filing follows a 2024 federal finding that Tennessee DCS failed to meet federal child welfare requirements, resulting in withheld federal funds.

Week Kicks Off to Rainy Start

Strong thunderstorms rolled into Tennessee overnight, giving much of the state a rude awakening on a Monday morning.

Damaging winds and heavy rainfall are the main concerns for Middle Tennessee as the week kicks off, while flash flooding is the primary worry for East Tennessee.

A second round of severe storms is expected to push through Middle Tennessee midmorning into the afternoon, with the first wave hitting southern Kentucky and northern Tennessee near midnight. The tornado threat stays very low.

Skies should clear by the evening, with quieter weather expected Tuesday and Wednesday statewide before storm chances creep back into the forecast by week’s end.

List: Nostalgic Spots in Middle Tennessee

A new list of 15 places every Middle Tennessee kid remembers is providing a guaranteed trip down memory lane for anyone who grew up in the region.

The list spans decades of Nashville nostalgia, from Opryland USA, the beloved theme park that closed in 1997 to make way for Opry Mills, to Starwood Amphitheatre in Antioch, where summer concerts were a rite of passage from 1986 to 2006.

Other honorees include Hickory Hollow Mall, Laser Quest, Mr. Gatti’s Pizza, and the guitar-shaped scoreboard at Herschel Greer Stadium, home of the Nashville Sounds before First Horizon Park opened.
