Article Icon 1Lawmakers Propose New Illegal Immigration Bills

Two Tennessee lawmakers have introduced legislation aimed at addressing illegal immigration, including measures that require local law enforcement to transport undocumented immigrants to sanctuary cities and propose distinctively colored driver’s licenses for noncitizens.

House Bill 10, introduced by Republican Rep. Todd Warner, mandates local police to request Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detainers for every undocumented immigrant encountered in Tennessee.

House Bill 11, sponsored by Republican Rep. Scott Cepicky, proposes that driver’s licenses issued to noncitizens feature a distinct color to streamline the verification process for employers and agencies, though the state already requires proof of citizenship to obtain a state-issued driver’s license.

Article Icon 1Record Number of Travelers Expected

Millions of people are expected to travel during the year-end holiday season, with a near-record number of Tennesseans and a record-high number of Americans on the move, according to AAA.

Between Dec. 21 and New Year’s Day, 2.77 million Tennesseans are projected to travel at least 50 miles from home—an increase of over 62,000 compared to last year but about 62,000 short of the 2019 record.

Nationally, AAA estimates 119.35 million Americans will travel this holiday season, surpassing the 2019 record by 64,000.

AAA attributes the surge in travel to several factors, including steady economic growth, slowing inflation, strong employment levels, and increased consumer spending. For more details, watch this video report.

Article Icon 1Drone Sightings in Middle Tennessee

Drones have been spotted across Middle Tennessee and southern Kentucky, mirroring mysterious sightings reported nationwide.

Residents in Nashville, Lebanon, and Nortonville, Kentucky, reported observing unusual drone activity, including grid-like flight patterns and rapid movements.

Despite the buzz, Metro Nashville Police and the FAA say they’ve received no formal complaints and clarified that flying drones is generally legal if operated under the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) guidelines.

The FAA continues to monitor drone activity but reports no significant increase in sightings from pilots or airports.
