Article Icon 1Tennessee School Tightens Flags Policy

Tullahoma City Schools voted Tuesday to allow only the American and Tennessee flags in classrooms, banning all others starting next year.

The move followed a controversy involving a teacher who reportedly displayed a pride flag and made remarks about conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

Supporters say the change keeps classrooms focused on education rather than political debates.

Competing petitions are circulating, and local Democrats plan to challenge the board in upcoming elections.

Article Icon 1Tennessee Moms Lead Recess Push Nationwide

Two Tennessee mothers have launched a fast-growing national campaign, Say Yes To Recess, advocating for more outdoor play and flexible learning in elementary schools.

In just 10 months, the movement has spread to 30% of U.S. states and helped push Tennessee to require 40 minutes of daily recess.

The group is calling for at least 60 minutes of screen-free, uninterrupted play, and is pushing back on schools using weather as an excuse to cancel recess. See their Facebook page here.

Founders say it’s about helping kids regulate, recharge, and return to learning ready to thrive.

Article Icon 1Woodpecker Comeback Planned for TN

State and federal agencies are teaming up to reintroduce the endangered red-cockaded woodpecker to Tennessee for the first time since 1994.

Announced at MTSU’s Biodiversity Summit, the plan includes restoring 1,200 acres of shortleaf pine forest in the Gulf State Natural Area, with bird reintroduction targeted for 2028.

The species vanished due to logging and fire suppression, but officials say this effort marks a major win for conservation.
