Article Icon 1Child Care Costs Hit Record in TN

Tennessee now leads the Southeast in child care costs, with families paying roughly $24,000 a year for one infant and one toddler in daycare, according to a new analysis.

Data shows the cost of child care in Tennessee is equal to about a third of the state’s median household income and more expensive than in-state tuition at virtually all of the state’s public universities.

Gov. Bill Lee acknowledged the strain in his State of the State address, pledging nearly $24 million to expand care access, bolster staffing, and support low-income families.

Nationally, child care costs continue to outpace inflation, with advocates warning that flat federal funding could make things worse.

Todd and Julie Chrisley, stars of Chrisley Knows Best, were granted full pardons by President Trump May 28 and are set to be released from federal prison.

The couple, convicted in 2022 of defrauding banks out of tens of millions and sentenced to 12 and seven years, respectively, had been serving time in Florida and Kentucky.

Their daughter, Savannah, was active in Trump’s 2024 campaign and led a public push for their release.

Their attorney claims the couple were unfairly targeted due to their conservative views, adding to a string of controversial pardons by the former president.

Students at the University of Tennessee are churning out school spirit—literally—with the UT Creamery, a student-run ice cream shop on campus.

Housed in the Food Science building, the program gives students hands-on business, science, and marketing experience through every pint produced.

Flavors include The Sheriff, a nod to Peyton Manning, and Torchbearer Chocolate, which ties directly to campus culture.

Open six days a week near Neyland Drive, the Creamery blends real-world learning with a taste of Rocky Top pride.

Hello!

My name is Cole, and I’m the CEO here at The Tennessee Flyover.

I’ve had plenty of jobs in my life. Before I found my way into several digital media roles, I had some dirty jobs—the kind that would make Mike Rowe proud. Flowback driver in the oilfield, drywall hauler, medical janitor, home flood restoration tech.

Without a doubt, my favorite job has been running The Tennessee Flyover.

And not just because it doesn’t rain indoors.

I grew up in Flyover Country, and I’ve felt keenly the way that traditional news media brands have left most of America behind. I believe in the mission of The Tennessee Flyover: to deliver a free, top-notch news publication without the bias that’s driven most of us away from mainstream media.

Every day, I get to come to work to help build something I believe in.

Nearly 70,000 Americans believe in The Tennessee Flyover, too, and it’s an honor to serve you every day.

If you appreciate what we deliver, would you support us directly?

We’re an independent small business, and our advertisers don’t completely cover the revenue that we depend on.

I would appreciate a donation. They allow us to keep building the product we believe in!
