A Tennessee woman spent months jailed after facial recognition software wrongly linked her to to a bank fraud case in North Dakota, according to her attorney.

Angela Lipps, 50, was arrested in July 2025, extradited in October, and held until late December, when records showed she was in Tennessee during the crimes.

Her lawyer says investigators relied heavily on an AI match and failed to verify basic facts before seeking a warrant.

Authorities say additional steps were taken, but a potential civil rights lawsuit is now under review.

Federal agents in Nashville arrested Luis Meza-Olivera, a Peruvian national with a prior conviction for kidnapping and assault, after a Nashville school official alerted authorities, according to ICE.

The tip came after his daughter told school staff she feared for her mother’s safety following his release from prison in March.

Meza-Olivera had completed a 12-year sentence tied to a 2015 case in Washington County, where a child called 911 during the attack.

Authorities say the arrest was based on the tip and his criminal history, and the case remains under review.

A Hendersonville woman is trying to track down the owner of possible cremated remains she unknowingly bought at a local Goodwill.

The woman said she purchased a small brass jar last week and later discovered what appeared to be bone fragments after opening it at home.

Experts told her it’s unclear at this point whether the remains are human or animal, especially if they are not recently cremated. See photos of the bones here.

She has contacted the store and posted online, hoping someone comes forward to claim what may be a loved one.
