Tennessee is bracing for intense “ring of fire” thunderstorms this week as a massive heat dome continues to roast the Southeast.

The storms are expected to flare up along the dome’s edge, with East Tennessee—especially around Knoxville—facing the highest threat of damaging winds and heavy rain.

Heat advisories remain in effect statewide, with West and Middle Tennessee sweltering under triple-digit heat indexes through Friday. Relief may come next week, with temps dipping into the high 80s.

Tennessee is now the third most dangerous state for teenage drivers, according to new data.

The state logged 41 deaths per 100,000 teen drivers, with the top causes being speeding, distracted driving, and alcohol use.

Officials blame inexperience, rural roads, and unbuckled drivers for the high risk. Parents are urged to talk with their teens about safety to help prevent tragic crashes.

The land, home to the 110-foot Virgin Falls, was protected for two decades by efforts led by the TennGreen Land Conservancy and features rugged terrain, cascading waterfalls, and trails beloved by hikers.

Future plans include adding infrastructure like a visitor center and expanded trail access. See more details about visiting Scott’s Gulf here.
