Article Icon 1New Tick Species Spotted in TN

A disease-carrying tick from East Asia, known as the longhorned tick, has made its way into Tennessee and 20 other U.S. states.

First spotted in Michigan in June, it likely arrived on livestock and poses health risks including high fevers and low blood platelet counts.

The longhorned tick is notable for its ability to self-reproduce without mating.

Health experts urge residents to use repellents, cover up outdoors, and seek medical help if symptoms like rashes appear after a bite.

The longtime Opry member, who has held a spot on the roster since 1961, said he injured his leg climbing into bed but is now improving with rest and treatment.

Anderson also canceled a songwriting session and State Fair event but expects to return for more shows, including the Opry’s 100th anniversary celebration this fall.

Driven by “Tailgate Trey” and “Relish Raena,” the iconic hot dog car is handing out wiener whistles and hosting meet-and-greets after a previously cut-short visit earlier this year.

Events run daily across the city and parts of north Mississippi. Sunday wraps up the tour at the Children’s Museum on Central Avenue.
