Article Icon 1Early Voting Opens with 3 Amendments

Early voting is underway across Tennessee through Oct. 29, with the governor’s race, state legislative seats, and three proposed constitutional amendments on the ballot.

Amendment One would let judges deny bail to people charged with certain violent crimes, such as second-degree murder and aggravated rape, and require them to explain those decisions on the record.

Supporters say it gives judges another tool to protect communities, while opponents argue the issue doesn’t belong in the constitution and could worsen jail overcrowding.

Amendment Two would ban a state property tax, and Amendment Three would expand crime victims’ rights. Election Day is Nov. 3.

Article Icon 1Dolly’s Nephew Fights Restraining Order

Dolly Parton’s nephew and former head of security, Bryan Seaver, filed court documents denying he threatened to harm her estate and business, pushing back on a restraining order sought by her longtime manager, Danny Nozell.

The company that manages Parton’s business interests has accused Seaver of a campaign of threats and intimidation aimed at getting money from her trusts after her death in August.

Seaver has said his messages were private conversations between grieving people that were taken out of context.

A judge extended the temporary restraining order earlier this month, and Parton’s sister Freida has said there’s no family feud over the estate.
