Article Icon 1Symphony Season Saved by $10M Gift

The Nashville Symphony says its 2026-27 season is back on after a $10 million donation from Oracle, days after a financial emergency nearly silenced the orchestra.

The board had voted Sept. 28 to suspend the season and furlough 77 musicians and 27 staff members starting Oct. 18 to address a $10 million budget deficit.

CEO Mark Cantrell stepped down amid the crisis, and former board member Mark Tillinger took over as president and CEO.

The donation reverses the financial emergency, which had put the orchestra’s concerts and jobs on hold.

Article Icon 1Hoax Bomb Threat Empties Graceland

Memphis police evacuated Graceland Sunday after a bomb threat, but officers found no explosives and determined the threat was a hoax.

Officers responded just after 11:30 a.m., cleared staff and tourists, and searched the mansion and surrounding grounds before giving visitors the all-clear.

It’s not Graceland’s first scare after a similar hoax threat in 2023. The nearby Memphis Zoo was also evacuated after another one in April.

Elvis Presley bought Graceland in 1957 for $102,500, and it has been open to the public as a museum since 1982.

Fall has arrived in East Tennessee, and a new roundup of local farms has all the details on where to find apple picking, pumpkin patches, and corn mazes this season.

Myers Pumpkin Patch in Bulls Gap keeps its patch and corn maze open through the end of October, along with mums, gourds, and Indian corn.

In Kingston, Narramore Farms offers wagon rides, a pumpkin patch, and a corn maze, while Greenback’s Maple Lane Farms bills its maze as the oldest in the Southeast.

Apple picking at some orchards runs into October, so it’s smart to call ahead for dates and hours.
