Article Icon 1Regional One Unveils $1B Memphis Hospital

Regional One Health revealed renderings for a new $1 billion hospital to be built on Union Avenue in Memphis, replacing its aging campus.

Demolition of the former Commercial Appeal building at 495 Union Street is already underway to clear the site for the new trauma center, which will serve as the anchor of the redeveloped campus.

Leaders called the project the start of a new era for health care in Memphis, framing it as a generational investment in the city’s safety-net and emergency services.

Regional One runs the region’s busiest trauma center and burn unit, so the modernized facility promises upgraded care for patients across the Mid-South and parts of neighboring Arkansas and Mississippi.

Article Icon 1ORNL Signs Deal toward Fusion Power

Oak Ridge National Laboratory signed a license agreement with the company Type One Energy for cryogenic pellet-fueling technology developed at the lab.

The deal supports the development of fusion energy reactors in East Tennessee, a region ORNL has long positioned as a national hub for advanced energy research and nuclear innovation.

Pellet injection is a method of firing frozen fuel deep into a reactor to sustain the superheated reaction that fusion needs to one day generate electricity.

The agreement marks an incremental but real step toward commercial fusion, a long-sought clean-energy goal that has drawn billions in public and private investment nationwide and could bring new high-tech jobs to the region if it pans out.

Article Icon 1Man Fakes Home Invasion for Ex

A Robertson County man confessed to fabricating a home invasion report and now may face charges, deputies say.

His false call triggered a full emergency response, including a K-9 unit and a drone search, as deputies scrambled to hunt for an intruder they believed had broken into a home.

The man later admitted he made the report solely in an attempt to win back his estranged girlfriend, apparently hoping to cast himself as part of the drama.

The stunt could leave him facing charges for filing a false report, a costly reminder that a fabricated emergency pulls deputies, dogs, and aircraft away from real calls that may be unfolding elsewhere.
