Article Icon 1Some in GOP Push Food Aid Return

Tennessee lawmakers are moving to override Gov. Bill Lee and restore a federal summer food program that previously helped feed about 700,000 children statewide.

A bipartisan group, led by two rural Republicans, is backing legislation requiring the state to rejoin the program, which once brought in $84 million but carries about $5 million in administrative costs.

Lee has rejected the funding multiple times, opting instead for a smaller state pilot that reaches far fewer kids.

The bill heads to a key Senate committee this week as pressure builds from educators, local leaders, and anti-hunger advocates.

A Tennessee state senator is pushing for state intervention in Memphis-Shelby County Schools following an audit citing “widespread operational failures.”

Sen. Brent Taylor plans a floor motion to create a state-appointed oversight committee, calling it a final step to address years of poor management.

Auditors found nearly 200 financial deficiencies from 2021 to 2024, including $1.1 million in waste and abuse.

District leaders and some Democrats caution against major changes before the full audit is complete.

Article Icon 1 Marathon Mix-Up Extends Race

Some runners in the Knoxville Marathon ended up going about a half-mile too far after a course confusion at the Neyland Drive turnaround during Sunday’s race.

Organizers initially said a lead vehicle took participants past the correct turnaround point, then later walked that back, saying runners missed arrows on the ground and followed a police cone too far.

The error could affect qualifying times for other races, frustrating participants who trained for precise goals.

Officials say they’re reviewing procedures to prevent a repeat in the future.

Unknown Number Calling? It’s Not Random

The BBC caught scam call center workers on hidden cameras as they laughed at the people they were tricking. One worker bragged about making $250k from victims. The disturbing truth? Scammers don’t pick phone numbers at random. They buy your data from brokers.

Once your data is out there, it’s not just calls. It’s phishing, impersonation, and identity theft. That’s why we recommend Incogni: They delete your info from the web, monitor and follow up automatically, and continue to erase data as new risks appear.
