Article Icon 1Cold Front, Storms Blow Into Tennessee

A strong cold front will sweep through Tennessee this afternoon and evening, bringing gusty winds, heavy rain, and a few storms.

Wind gusts could top 50 mph on the Cumberland Plateau and 35 mph across Middle Tennessee, prompting weather alerts in both Knoxville and Nashville.

The storms may briefly impact commutes and could down holiday decorations or unsecured items.

The system clears out by Friday, bringing cooler air and highs in the 40s before temperatures rebound into the 60s for Christmas week, leaving little hope for a white Christmas.

Article Icon 1Vanderbilt Tests Drug for Rare Disorder

Vanderbilt’s Children’s Hospital in Nashville is running a clinical trial for a new drug aimed at easing chronic hunger in kids with Prader-Willi syndrome, a rare genetic disorder that affects 10,000–20,000 Americans.

The drug, ARD-101, is part of the HERO trial and works by triggering gut hormones to reduce the compulsive eating behaviors that define the condition.

Families are hopeful the treatment could lead to more independence and a better quality of life, though results are still early.

The disorder currently has just one approved treatment and no cure.

Article Icon 1Parade Bars Floats That Distract From Jesus

Organizers of the Cookeville Christmas Parade denied entries from both Upper Cumberland Pride and the Putnam County Young Republicans, citing a desire to focus on the Christian message of the holiday.

“We wanted to make much of the person of Jesus born in Bethlehem,” organizers wrote. “To do so and in efforts to minimize distraction from Him, we planned this event with stated prohibitions of special interest groups.”

This follows last year’s controversy, when parade participants were required to sign a statement of faith.

The privately run parade, themed Remember the Reason, is scheduled for Friday.
