Good Morning! On this day in 1927, the Battle of Nashville Monument in Nashville was originally dedicated. The monument, sculpted by famed Italian artist Giuseppe Moretti, was partially destroyed by a tornado in 1974 and rededicated in 1999.

Forrest Gump Star Donates $1M for Vet Healing

Forrest Gump actor and longtime veterans advocate Gary Sinise has donated $1 million to help transform an abandoned Nashville church into a 24/7 healing center for veterans.

The project, led by Purple Heart recipient Richard Casper and his nonprofit CreatiVets, will focus on helping combat veterans cope with PTSD through art, music, and community.

Casper, who served in Iraq and battled his own trauma, says the center will offer a positive alternative to destructive habits.

The effort addresses a major gap in care, as many veterans avoid traditional treatment despite widespread PTSD.

Mountain Snow, Bitter Cold Hit East TN

An Arctic blast swept into East Tennessee overnight Sunday, bringing snow to the Smokies and a hard freeze across the region.

Higher elevations like Mount LeConte saw 3 inches of snow, with up to a foot expected through today under a Winter Storm Warning.

UT Honors 368th Fallen Volunteer

The University of Tennessee added a 368th name to its Armed Forces Veterans Memorial during a wreath-laying ceremony on Sunday, honoring students, faculty, and staff who died in military service.

This year’s addition recognized a previously overlooked veteran who died over a century ago.

The event, led by ROTC cadets and alumni, included remarks from Gold Star mother Paula Knauss-Selph, whose son was the last American killed in Afghanistan.

The ceremony marked the kickoff of Veterans Week events aimed at preserving UT’s legacy of service and sacrifice.
