Article Icon 1Plane Crashes in Cheatham County Field

A small plane went down Friday evening in a cornfield in rural Cheatham County, across from a row of homes, authorities said.

The pilot was the only person to suffer injuries, but he managed to call 911 after getting out of the wreckage and is expected to recover.

Emergency officials said the cornfield softened the impact, and no fuel spilled.

The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board will investigate Tennessee’s 10th plane crash of the year.

Article Icon 1Knoxville To Open Delaney Family Museum

Knoxville’s Beck Cultural Exchange Center is turning the former home of artists Beauford and Joseph Delaney into a museum, honoring their family’s history and work.

The brothers, born in the early 1900s, became celebrated painters, while their parents—born into slavery—raised 10 children in poverty, with only four surviving to adulthood.

The museum will feature Beauford’s abstract art, family artifacts like a tattered Bible, and an artist-in-residence program. See renderings here.

No opening date has been set, but organizers say the site will spotlight both the struggles and triumphs of one of Knoxville’s most historic families.

Article Icon 1 Titans Fall to Broncos in Opener

The Tennessee Titans failed to score a touchdown in their season opener, settling for four field goals in a 20-12 loss to the Denver Broncos.

Rookie quarterback and No. 1 overall pick Cam Ward completed 12 of 28 passes for 112 yards and was sacked six times, as Tennessee’s offense was limited to 134 total yards.

Denver turned the ball over four times, but a Wil Lutz field goal in the third quarter and a J.K. Dobbins touchdown midway through the fourth quarter put the Broncos on top.

Tennessee hosts the Los Angeles Rams in its home opener Sunday at Nissan Stadium. See the Titans’ full schedule here.
