The Knoxville Area Urban League hosted its 23rd annual Shoes for School event, providing shoes, backpacks, and supplies to over 1,200 children ahead of the new school year.

Held this year at Smokies Stadium, the event has grown from a small parking lot gathering to a major community effort.

Organizers say the goal is to give every child a fresh start, while families praised the program as a much-needed support for working parents.

Article Icon 1Polk Co. Man Planned Bomb Attack During Arrest

Polk County authorities discovered 14 improvised explosive devices in the home of Kevin Wade O’Neal, 54, during his Friday arrest. 

Deputies were serving warrants for threatening to kill public officials when they found a smoldering IED in O’Neal’s bedroom.

Investigators say O’Neal intended to detonate the bombs as officers arrived.

He now faces 11 counts of attempted first-degree murder and 14 counts of prohibited weapons charges.

Comedy legend Steve Martin will co-host the 2025 IBMA Bluegrass Music Awards in Chattanooga alongside Grammy-winning banjoist Alison Brown.
